Mulgara - Ecological & Economic Importance
Mulgaras are an important predator in their local
ecosystem, eating insects and small mammals & reptiles. The Mulgara may
also be instrumental in increasing biodiversity by suppressing otherwise
dominant and competitive species thus allowing less competitive species
to evolve.
There is even suggestion that they play an important
role in reducing pests in their local area which if left unchecked could
post a problem in larger areas.
From an economic point of view, Mulgaras have no
major impact for Humans other than possibly helping to keep pest
populations in check and reducing agricultural and forestry
infestations.
One could perhaps argue perhaps that the Mulgara has
little significance in the overall scheme of things, but it could also
be easily argued that if the animal was important enough to evolve, then
it is important enough to conserve.
